Choosing your load-out is a big part of your tactics. It changes completely depending on your fighting style, whether using a body armor or grenades, weapons of different range or giving priority to the power of a single attack or to the rate of fire. Load-out & gear choices improve as you complete more missions. Mission completion scores affect which rewards you can pick from, so you can try a mission again aiming at a higher completion score!
